The Health Insurance for Work Advancement (HIWA) program is designed for working people with disabilities who usually do not qualify for Medicaid because of income and/or assets. The HIWA Program gives an eligible person the option to pay a premium to obtain Medicaid benefits. To qualify for HIWA you must
- Be between 16-64 years of age
- Have a disability (You must have a disability that meets the Social Security Disability (SSDI) Guidelines to be receiving a disability payment from the Social Security Administration.
- Be employed or self-employed
- Have income and resources that do not exceed the standards established by the State of Nevada
- Pay a monthly premium

The Goal of the HIWA Program is to remove barriers to employment in order to allow Nevadans with Disabilities to maximize potential for personal growth and independence.
